Chinese New Year (Wood Rooster) - February 9, 2005
February 9, 2005
The Year of the Wood Rooster – 2005 By Brenni Larson ************************************************************ ************************************************************ 2005 is the Year of the Wood Rooster. The Rooster is yang (active) energy, and its symbol is the Sun. The crowing of the Rooster symbolizes success and fame. Roosters are also known to ward off evil. On New Year’s Eve a feast will take place to honor the past and present generations. This feast is called “surrounding the stove” and symbolizes family unity. (The stove symbolizes wealth in feng shui.) At midnight on New Year’s Eve, every door and window must be open to send out the old year, and welcome the New Year. The New Year’s Day energy will set the tone for the rest of the year. Refrain from foul language, or bad words. Do not lend money, or you will all year long. Don’t use scissors or knives, because you will cut off fortune. Wear red, a happy and bright color, to bring a bright and happy year. Give children money in little red envelopes for good fortune. How is the Chinese New Year determined? The second New Moon, after the winter solstice, is New Year’s Eve. New Years day starts with the first day after the New Moon, February 9, 2005. 15 days later the New Year ends with the celebration of Lantern Festival. www.fengshuiz.com brennilarson@fengshuiz.com 972-994-9283
